The Mexican Ministry of Health (Ssa) has issued an epidemiological travel warning regarding mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, for anyone planning to travel to African countries soon.
Mpox cases have been spreading across the continent, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighboring countries such as Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. The African Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has declared the situation a public health emergency.
So far this year, there have been over 14,000 reported cases of the virus worldwide and 524 deaths, marking a significant increase from the numbers reported in 2023.
