Border crossings ‘victory’ has human rights price tag

The Donald Trump administration has overseen a dramatic drop in illegal border crossings, with apprehensions falling to their lowest level since 1970, according to internal federal statistics obtained by CBS News.

This sharp decline is attributed to aggressive border policies, including military deployment, strict asylum limits and a rapid deportation system, the outlet noted.

However, critics say his “victory” has been offset by immigration enforcement policies widely condemned as draconian, inhumane, illegal and potentially racist.

Despite the reduction in illegal crossings, many argue that the cost to migrants’ rights and dignity has been substantial.

A White House statement said the “seismic turnaround (from the Biden presidency) proves that strong leadership can, in fact, stop the flood of illegal crossings, deadly cartels, and security threats dead in their tracks.”
