Thomas ‘Sandy’ Peden

Longtime Guadalajara resident Thomas “Sandy” Peden, born May 9, 1923 in County Down, Northern Ireland, died peacefully in San Antonio, Texas on March 24.

Peden came to Jalisco by way of Argentina, Canada, Haiti and Boston. During his years in business in Guadalajara he was also very active in the Rotary organization, with the Salvation Army’s Hogar de Niños and with different local churches.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mabel Bain, whom he married in Dundee, Scotland on July 15, 1948.  He is also preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Elizabeth Peden, sister Miriam Anderson and brother Harry Peden, all of Northern Ireland.

Peden is survived by his daughter Glynne Peden Howland and her husband John Howland, son David Peden and his wife Isobel Burris Peden, grandchildren Matthew, Audrey, Colin and Miriam and great grandchildren Taylor, Haley, Tye, Alex and Sebastian.  He is also survived by brother James Peden and wife Maureen of Northern Ireland, sister Isabell Ritchie and husband John of Northern Ireland, brother Joseph Peden and wife Zena of British Columbia, Canada and many nieces, nephews and their children.

A memorial service will be held at University Methodist Church in San Antonio on Saturday, March 31, 1:30 pm, the Rev. William Rice presiding.  Interment of ashes will be at Balgay Cemetery in Dundee, Scotland.
