Patrick Joseph Carroll

Former lakeside resident Patrick Joseph (Pat) Carroll died July 24 at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 81.

pg4aBorn on October 26, 1936, he had a distinguished career as a teacher, school principal and director of education in Ontario before retiring to the Chapala area with his wife Terry in 1999.

A lifelong theater buff, Carroll performed numerous roles at the Kanata Theatre and the Orpheus Society in Ottawa prior to settling in Mexico. He promptly joined Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT), appearing on stage in 25 different roles between 2000 and 2011. The last of the three productions he directed was the farce “Sex Please, We’re Sixty,” presented in April 2012.  He also volunteered in various LLT posts, including stints as bar manager and treasurer, prior to serving successive terms as president from 2004 to 2013.

In addition, Carroll was an active member of the Culinary Society of Ajijic (CASA). He earned many awards for his cooking creations over the years and held the gavel as the group’s president in 2012.

Carroll was predeceasedin April of last year by his beloved spouse. He is survived by sons Chris (Vicky) Carroll and Tim Carroll (Kitty); daughter Tracy Carroll (Trevor), four granddaughters and a grandson, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Details of a memorial service to be held in his native Canada will be announced at a near future date. LLT is planning a celebration of his life set for Saturday, September 8.
