Anne Presley Scott

Anne Presley Scott of Riberas del Pilar died peacefully in her sleep on March 27, surrounded by loving family.

pg6aAnne was born on February 12, 1929 in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late John W. Presley and Elizabeth Mack Presley. She graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia and was an accomplished classical pianist. She received her Masters Degree in Instrumental Music Education from Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi. Anne met her husband, James Scott, in Eupora, Mississippi and they spent almost 60 years devoted to each other and their three daughters.

The Scotts possessed a love of making and teaching music together and inspired thousands of students during their shared careers. Anne and Jim Scott were inseparable. To know them was to inevitably share music and laughter. Later in life they retired to Mexico where they spent time traveling, hosting gatherings for cherished friends, and feeding needy families through Operation Feed, a grass-roots charity they founded to feed the hungry in San Juan Cosala.

Anne was a voracious reader, a great conversationalist who never met a stranger, and an avid sports fan. She was especially fond of LSU teams, the Astros, and cheering for Joe Burrow. She was happiest at the beach, eating raw oysters, and spending time with family and friends. She was known as a woman who practiced love-filled acceptance through Christian faith in her daily life.

Preceded in death by siblings John Presley, Jr. and Sarah Presley Wiggins, she is survived by daughters Nola Scott Jones of Nashville, Tennessee; Mollianne McMills (Will Arenas) of Spring, Texas; and Cynthia Kay Scott (Brian Seeger) of Boston, Massachusetts; grandson Alex Holdford (Randallyn Holdford) of Katy, Texas; great-grandson Caleb Holdford of Katy, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Anne’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Riberas del Pilar on Saturday, May 13 at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to support the mission of Operation Feed (gofund.me/1a7520a7).

Born in St. Joseph, Missouri on August 24, 1948, David attended St. Francis Xavier grade school and graduated from the former Christian Brothers High School, where he won several speaking awards.

While attending Rockhurst College (now University) in Kansas City, Missouri, David participated in the Young Democrats Club, and was inducted in the Jesuit Honor Society, namely Alpha Sigma Nu, and did volunteer work for the nearby Little Sisters of the Poor.  David graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science, with honors, in May 1970.

After a spell teaching at the junior high level, David started work as a clerk at the U.S. Bureau of Prisons in Leavenworth, Kansas.  His 11-year career in Missouri, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas included promotions to physician assistant, hospital assistant administrator, and full clinical administrator.  Later jobs he held included funeral director and teacher at a corrections institute for high school boys. He completed his working life as a TSA security screener at Kansas City International Airport.

While still living in St. Joseph, David volunteered for 12 years as a chaplain at the local State Corrections Facility.  This won for him an award from the Missouri Catholic Conference for Peace and Justice in 2000 for his work with prison inmates. Before then, he also served three terms as Buchanan County Democrat Committee Member.

On August 7, 1976, David married Catherine Ann Chitwood at Blessed Sacrament Church in Tallahassee, Florida.  Their daughter Frances Ann was born in July 1979 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Huffs were avid travelers, visiting Europe and many places in the United States, including a cruise through the southern part of Alaska.  Their trips to various parts of Mexico influenced their move to lakeside for their retirement in August 2007.

David volunteered at the Lake Chapala Society, where he coordinated the newly developed Docent program. For a while, he helped at Hope House. As a member of San Andres Catholic Church, he served as a communion minister and a Mass server.  It was in Ajijic in 2022 that he received the prestigious award  the Magis Medal from the Alpha Sigma Nu for his services for the church and the community.

Davis is survived by his wife Catherine and their daughter Frances “Frankie” Wilmer (Chris), nieces, nephews and cousins.  A memorial Mass will be held at San Andres Catholic Church on Sunday, May 28 at 10 a.m.
