Puerto Vallarta has become the first municipality in the state of Jalisco to permit changes of gender on birth certificates without first having to file an injunction with Mexico’s Supreme Court.
The decision was announced this week at a joint press conference hosted by Puerto Vallarta Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña and Héctor Ramírez Betancourt, leader of the city’s Colectivo LGBTIQ.
