Four decades and eight million turtles later

From August to January, Jalisco’s coast enters turtle nesting season, and the University of Guadalajara (UdeG), primarily through its University Center of the South Coast (CUCsur), has been leading conservation efforts since 1985.

pg7aOver the past 40 years, the UdeG’s Sea Turtle Conservation Program has rescued and released more than eight million sea turtles. This year, as it begins its fifth decade, the program aims to release 544,000 hatchlings from three main species: the Olive Ridley, the black sea turtle, and the leatherback sea turtle.
