Throw that away? No chance, I might use it again … someday

Broken down, outdated electronics piling up? Crowded in the dark spaces of that top left dresser drawer, threatening to spill out of that distended, yellow box in the garage? The Reciclón Intermunicipal program is giving communities in 44 participating municipalities throughout Jalisco the chance to conscientiously dispose of accumulated electronic waste this month.

Collection sites will be open for a limited time (usually only a day or two) in each municipality. To participate, simply haul old MP3 players, computers, cell phones, video game consoles, printers, copiers, keyboards, mice, televisions etc. to any of the collection sites during designated hours.

For the first time this year, the sites will also be accepting batteries and small kitchen appliances, such as blenders and microwaves.

The program hopes to top last year’s collection of 103 tons of clunky debris.

Remsa, a company specializing in scrap electronics, will process the huge pile of parts. About 95 percent of the materials will be classified for recycling, with the remaining toxic wastes destined for suitable disposal.
