Tequila to host major spirits contest

The town of Tequila will host the fourth 2016 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles competition from August 24-26.

The event is described as the world’s most important spirits challenge by Luis Velasco, president of the National Tequila Industry Chamber, a sponsor of this year’s event.

The 2015 contest took place in Guiyan, China, when 61 Mexican spirit brands (mostly tequila) participated out of a total of 1,400. Two Mexican brands won gold medals: Campo Azul Selecto 100% Agave Reposado and Tequila Gran Orendain Blanco.

Velasco said winners of Concours Mondial medals can expect to see their sales increase by 20 percent.
