USAF Hurricane Hunter to help Mexico monitor storms

Puerto Vallarta received a visit last week from a U.S. Air Force “Hurricane Hunter” aircraft, which will help monitor  this year’s temporada de huricanes.

The visit is part of a series of preventive measures the government is taking against extreme weather provoked by climate change.

Roberto Ramirez de la Parra, director of the National Water Commission said the collaboration between Mexico and the U.S. government would help safeguard the safety of the population.

This will be the second time the U.S. Air Force 5003 aircraft will be used to monitor Mexico’s Pacific coast. The first time was in 2015, when it collected important information about Hurricane Patricia, the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the western hemisphere.

The plane provides vital data about wind, rain and temperature that the hurricane hunting crew will analyze and relay back to the government.
