Myth busted

The myth that women drivers are more dangerous than men has been busted once and for all! 

Data from the Jalisco Transportation Department (Secretaría de Movilidad or Semov) shows that for every 100 licenses issued to men there are four reported accidents – double the number attributed to women. Figures from 2014 show men to be responsible for 39,972 accidents, and women 6,952.

Uber to take cash?

Ride-sharing service Uber is to start a pilot program in Guadalajara that will give some customers the opportunity to pay in cash. Uber already lets some riders pay with cash in low-income countries such as India, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Clients will still need to use the Uber app, however.

Canadian arrested

A 23-year-old Canadian citizen  has been arrested along with a Romanian accomplice for attempting to extract money illegally from an ATM machine. According to police reports, Aldea Lonut Catalin and Brecea Livio Costinel were reported to authorities after being spotted acting suspiciously in a Banamex ATM booth in Santa Anita. When confronted by police officers, they were found to be in possession of electronic equipment that could be introduced in machines to extract cash.

12,000 tickets issued

In just six weeks between April 14 and May 28, officers from the Jalisco Transportation Department (Secretaría de Movilidad or Semov) have issued 12,000 tickets (infracciones) to owners of private vehicles for not displaying valid smog  test (verificación) stickers.  In addition, they handed out more than 1,000 tickets to bus, taxi and cargo truck drivers.
