Jalisco to feel the bite from federal budget cuts

The federal government will slash around 50 million dollars (905 million pesos) from its annual contributions to Jalisco as part of the federal budget cuts announced in the wake of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union.

Just under half of this total will affect health services, in particular the Seguro Popular insurance program, which is already underfunded, according to some critics.

Other areas to be impacted include highway and indigenous infrastructure and funds for the state’s Pueblo Magicos (Magic Towns).  Financing of Guadalajara’s third Tren Ligero (subway) line – currently under construction – will not be affected.
