Dengue season ready to kick in

Jalisco Health Secretary Fernando Petersen Aranguren has warned that the chances of contracting the mosquito-borne disease dengue will increase significantly once the rainy season commences in earnest later this month.

Although a spike in reported dengue cases was registered in the first week of June, only 217 cases have been confirmed in Jalisco so far this year. Last year’s total in the state was 2,651, Petersen added.  According to the federal Health Ministry, 15 people have died from dengue in 2019. Seventy-five percent of all cases correspond to five states: Chiapas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and Jalisco.
