Jocotepec cranks up policing of sanitation rules

The Jocotepec government is taking this month’s spike in Covid-19 cases seriously, with Mayor José Miguel Gómez announcing a crackdown on violations of precautionary measures.

pg5bMunicipal inspectors and police executed their first closure order this week, temporarily lowering the curtain on a grocery store in San Juan Cosalá, where a clerk was found dispensing merchandise without wearing a cubrebocas (face mask).

The mayor has also pledged to punish persons who refuse to go into quarantine after testing positive for the virus and likewise anyone detected spreading disinformation on social media networks.

Jocotepec’s register of confirmed Covid-19 cases jumped from two on June 1 to 23 as of June 17, with the municipality’s first three deaths added to the tally in the same lapse.

The latest fatality was a 54-year-old man with a history of obesity, hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), who expired June 13 at Jocotepec’s Community Hospital.
