70 cases of health worker assaults under investigation

State authorities are leading at least 70 separate investigations into assaults on medical personnel in Jalisco, according to Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez.

So far, four people have been sentenced to prison terms for assaulting health personnel during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Posting on social media, Alfaro expressed his disgust that in one recent incident, an armed man entered an IMSS clinic in Guadalajara and threatened staff, demanding that he be attended to before anyone else.

In another recent incident, a nurse attending Covid-19 patients at the IMSS hospital 46 was assaulted by neighbors who, she said, were frightened that she might pass on the coronavirus.

Several other cases under investigation have seen health workers showered with bleach.
