Covid-19 in Jalisco: Where we are now

Wednesday July 15, the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ) confirmed 466 new Covid-19 infections in the state, raising the total to 20,278 since the first patient was identified back in March.

There are currently 2,615 “active” cases – i.e. Covid-19 positive people diagnosed in the last 14 days.

Almost 80 percent of the confirmed cases have been registered in six municipalities that comprise the Guadalajara metropolitan area: Guadalajara (7,457 cases), Zapopan (3,874), Tlaquepaque (1,821), Tlajomulco (1,314), Tonalá (1,166), El Salto (495).  Chapala has registered 37 cases and Jocotepec 47.

July 15, the federal heath ministry confirmed 21 more deaths in Jalisco, occurring between June 14 and July 14. This brings the total number of fatalities in the state to 1,105 – 2.8 percent of Mexico’s total of 36,906 reported on Wednesday of this week. (Jalisco has 6.5 percent of Mexico’s population.) The deaths have occurred in 61 Jalisco municipalities. Chapala has registered three fatalities and Jocotepec six.
