Jalisco’s Octoberfest cancelled

With no slowdown in the Covid-19 pandemic, Jalisco authorities have announced the cancellation of several major events planned for the fall.

The annual “Grito” ceremony held on September 15, Independence Day eve, will not take place this year, nor will the annual Fiestas de Octubre, the state fair that runs for the entire month of October. Estimated losses caused by the cancellation of the fiestas will run to around 450 million pesos ($US19.7 million), according to organizers of the event.
