Quince fest switches to virtual format

Expo Membrillo, the annual quince festival put on in Atotonilquillo by growers and producers of derivatives of the tangy fruit, is scheduled to take place August 15 and 16 in a virtual format.

pg6bThe typical town fair held each August over the past 27 years was called off this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although visitors will not be able to be physically present to sample and purchase a wide array of membrillo goodies, they will be able to catch some of the traditional activities that will be transmitted on the Expo Membrillo Facebook platform.

Broadcasts of cultural entertainment will commence Saturday, August 15, 11 a.m., and at noon the following day. The customary competitions in the best samples of the quince harvest, and top rated ate (fruit paté), ponche (cordial) and original culinary dishes will be held around 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.
