Jalisco eases Covid restrictions despite sustained cases & fatalities

for no 5Last month’s 876 deaths represent 36 percent of the total number of coronavirus deaths recorded since the state’s first fatality was reported on March 23. While the infection rate of the disease and use of hospital bed capacity have declined minimally over the past week, Jalisco remains on “orange” (high risk) alert in the federal government’s stoplight system. (Only one state in Mexico is currently red: Colima.)

Despite these indicators, the state government will allow all non-essential businesses in shopping malls to open on weekends as of Saturday, September 5. (They previously could only open on weekdays.)

Exactly the same protocols must be enforced: temperature checks, mandatory face masks, social distancing of seven square meters of space per person, footwear disinfectant, sanitary gel, etcetera.
