Governors split to form anti-AMLO bloc

The Federalist Alliance, a group of ten opposition governors, has announced its departure from the National Conference of Governors (Conago), opting to create a “new space for republican dialogue and not a simulation” with the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Speaking on behalf of the group after their meeting Monday, Chihuahua Governor Javier Corra said Conago “no longer fulfills the function for which it was born, as a space to deliberate and defend federalism and the sovereignty of the states.”

The new bloc will act as ”a counterweight” to the federal government, Corra said.

In addition to Enrique Alfaro from Jalisco, the alliance includes the governors of Durango, Michoacán, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, Colima, Chihuahua, Aguascalientes, Coahuila and Guanajuato.
