Flu vaccine program gets under way

The Jalisco state government has started its annual influenza vaccination program, with the target of inoculating more than two million people.

The program kicked off on October 1, with priority given to children from six months to five years old, adults over 60, pregnant women and people suffering from respiratory or immunosuppressive diseases such as cancer, asthma, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetes and obesity, among others.

“These risk groups should get vaccinated early — no later than December — before the increase in the circulation of the seasonal virus,” said Jalisco Health Secretary Fernando Petersen.

The total number of doses available in Jalisco is 2.35 million, which will be split equally between Jalisco Health Department (SSJ) facilities, and the two main employee healthcare programs, the IMSS and ISSSTE.
