More infections are being noted among young people in Jalisco, as authorities fear that protocols are being relaxed as citizens “become fatigued” by mandatory Covid-19 measures.
“Parties organized by young people are where the highest rates of infections are occurring,” Zapopan Mayor Pablo Lemus said this week. “They probably won’t experience serious symptoms but the danger is that they can infect their parents and grandparents,” he added.
Concerned at weekend crowds flaunting regulations in the downtown area, Guadalajara Mayor Ismael del Toro said he has ordered municipal officials to beef up checks to ensure that everyone is complying with the mandatory measures to restrict Covid-19 spread.
“In the past three weekends, we have seen more people coming into the centro historico just to have a day out, and not for a specific reason, or even to eat at a restaurant,” he said.
