Jalisco schools set to reopen January 25

All being well, students in Jalisco will be able to return to in-person classes as of January 25, 2021, Governor Enrique Alfaro announced this week.

pg5Face-to-face classes will be optional. Parents will able to choose whether to send their children back to school, or continue with the distance learning model in use since the start of the pandemic in mid-March.

Jalisco’s Covid “Health Cabinet” will make a definitive decision on January 11, based on the development of the virus in the state.

Teachers considered vulnerable to complications from the disease due to age or health conditions will not be permitted to return to work. However, teachers will be categorized as “priority” for the Covid-19 vaccine, on the same level as health care workers, Alfaro said.

When schools reopen, hours will be reduced. Preschoolers will attend for three hours, primary school students for four hours and secondary school students for six hours. Breaks will be staggered and voluntary.  Details regarding high schools and universities are still to be defined.
