Only nine of the 706 graves built in April in Guadalajara’s large Mezquitán cemetery for citizens who die from Covid-19 have been occupied, according to Alberto Martínez Armenta, the municipal director of cemeteries.
He explained that most of the 4,845 victims of the disease in Jalisco, or their family members, had previous arrangements for their burials or cremation, or made alternative plans. Martínez Armenta noted that municipal fees to use the graves are being waived for families of Covid-19 victims, as are all burial and cremation charges.
