With Covid-19 hospitalizations increasing, the Jalisco Health Department is urging families in the state to limit their Christmas family gatherings to no more than ten persons.
The agency also is warning of the risks of holding seasonal posadas in enclosed spaces in the days leading up to December 25.
Tuesday, December 15, was another dark day for Covid-19 in Jalisco, with 914 new cases reported and 58 deaths. A day later, state health authorities announced a new record for people occupying hospital beds – 965, up by 28 from the previous high of 937 set on November 9.
The general hospital occupancy for Covid in Jalisco increased from 24.8 percent at the end of November to 30.2 percent on December 12. The occupancy of beds in intensive care units went up from 42.2 to 49 percent during the same period.
Four hospitals are now reported at full capacity: IMSS Hospital General 14, Hospital Regional de Puerto Vallarta, Hospital Militar Regional de Guadalajara and Hospital Enfermería y Militar, Zapopan.
Others running at high occupancy rates include the (private) Hospital Real San José (93 percent), IMSS Clínica 89 (88 percent), Hospital Regional Yahualica (75 percent), IMSS Clínica 46 (70 percent), IMSS Clínica 110 (67 percent) and the Hospital Comunitario Jocotepec (60 percent).
