A commando of hooded assailants armed with high-caliber assault weapons gunned down 11 bricklayers who were sipping beers on the street while waiting for their employer to pay them for their week´s labor.
Two probable bystanders, a woman and a 10-year-old boy, were wounded in the attack.
The incident occurred in the La Jauja neighborhood of Tonala on the evening of Saturday, February 27.
Taken by complete surprise, all but one of the victims died as they huddled around a parked pickup truck while waiting for their weekly pay. One of the victims, a minor, was struck by bullets during the melee but managed to run inside the adjoining property, according to police. He later died of his injuries.
