Classes resume partially

In the most recent stage of the state government’s schedule for a return to in-person classes, 13,606 schools in Jalisco got the green light to fully open their doors on Monday, May 17.

pg4While 100-percent capacity classes will not start until the next academic cycle in August, sessions with small groups of up to nine students will be permitted for the remainder of the school year, accompanied by strict safety protocols. The online and televised academic program for public schools will continue, and all in-person classes will be voluntary.

Schools will also be open for student evaluations, registrations, delivery of textbooks and uniforms, and some physical and cultural activities. High schools will be allowed to use laboratories and workshops up to a 30-percent capacity. Some end-of-school-year activities will be permitted.

The University of Guadalajara (UdG)announced that it will resume face-to-face classes on June 20.

To safeguard the health of students and teachers, the Jalisco Education Department  (SEP) has earmarked 160 million pesos to purchase gel, soap, chlorine, thermometers, face masks and other supplies.

According to the SEP. 1,679,929 students and 80,899 teachers are registered in the state.

More than 90 percent of teachers and education personnel have received a first dose of Covid vaccine, according to Jalisco health authorities.

Mexico City will resume face-to-face classes on June 7, the capital’s government has announced.

According to the teachers union,  the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (SNTE), at least 450 schools in Jalisco were either vandalized or broken into during the 14 months they were closed. The national total is estimated at nearly 5,500.
