Jalisco to ease up on Covid restrictions

With Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations decreasing in Jalisco, the state’s Health Cabinet (Mesa de Salud),

led by Governor Enrique Alfaro, has approved extending the capacity permitted at restaurants, entertainment and sports venues and most other public places where crowds are present.

Restaurants will be able to install more tables, working at 75 percent dining capacity, up from 50 percent. They will be permitted to stay open for an extra hour, until 1 a.m. Bars and nightclubs may also remain open for an additional hour, until 4 a.m., and increase their clientele capacity from 33 to 40 percent.

Capacity has also been raised for cinemas, theaters, museums, cultural centers, artistic academies, churches, sports clubs and stadiums, hotels and gyms (see chart).

Indoor event halls may welcome up to 300 guests, and outdoor events as many as 600. Trade shows can admit between 2,000 and 4,000 visitors a day, depending on the amount of exhibition space in use.

In a boost for the tourism sector, hotels and motels can increase their guest capacity from 66 to 80 percent.

Department stores and supermarkets are restricted to admitting a maximum of 1,000 customers per 4,000 square meters of floor space.

There has been no change in Jalisco’s strategy regarding the full reopening of schools.
