Jalisco authorities to discuss ‘vaccine passports’

The Jalisco state government Health Cabinet (Mesa de Salud) will discuss the possibility of introducing a measure that would oblige people to present proof of vaccination against Covid-19 before entering certain venues, the state governor has said.

for no 1If approved, the measure would be similar to the “health pass” implemented recently in France, in which people wanting to visit cinemas, museums, sports games, night clubs and other cultural venues are required to show proof of either vaccination, a negative Covid test, or recent recovery from the virus.

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro admitted such measures would be drastic, but said it was “unfair that the general population is paying the price for people who have decided not to get vaccinated.”

Alfaro did not say if he personally supported such measures, and stressed that it will be up to “the experts who define the path to follow.”

At present there is no obligatory requirement for citizens here to be vaccinated, even health care workers.
