Five hectares of land tucked into the mountain range above of Jocotepec were targeted in this month’s reforestation program jointly sponsored by the National Forest Commission, Driscoll’s berry farm companies and two NGOs, the Instituto Corazón de la Tierra and Sociedad Amigos del Lago.
Dozens of volunteers assisted in planting approximately 2,000 endemic trees to restore the Mesa de las Azucenas area, part of the Huejotitán Ejido, which was devastated by a forest fire earlier this year.
Starting on July 8 to commemorate Arbor Day, the project was completed Sunday, July 18.
