Ajijic’s traditional Regatta de Globos has been definitively cancelled for the second year running, in accordance with a state mandate prohibiting all mass gatherings for September festivities as a safety precaution against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The popular spectacle featuring the launch of dozens of colorful, hand-crafted tissue paper hot air balloons is tied in with the local celebration of Fiestas Patrias. It is normally held on the Saturday preceding Independence Day.
