Restaurant, bar capacities go up as Covid cases drop

A fall in the number of “active” Covid-19 cases over the past three weeks has prompted the Jalisco Health Board to relax a few of its restrictions on gatherings.

As of October 1, restaurants will be able to expand their capacity from 50 to 65 percent, while the limit for sports stadiums goes up to 55 percent from 33 percent.  Meanwhile, bars are permitted to increase their capacity from 25 to 40 percent.

In the past three weeks, the Covid-19 test positivity rate in Jalisco dropped from 27.5 to 17.11 percent. (Comparatively, the highest positivity rates in the United States currently are Idaho and Iowa, at 49.4 and 41.3 percent respectively.) Hospitalizations in Jalisco for patients infected with Covid-19 have halved in the  past three weeks, state health authorities report.

The new measures mean that many more spectators will be able to attend the Liga Mx “Clasico” soccer game between local teams Chivas and Atlas, scheduled Saturday, October 2, at the Akron Stadium, with a kickoff time of 9 p.m.
