Movimiento Ciudadano repeats in rerun Tlaquepaque election that no one seemed to care about

Citlalli Amaya of the Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) looks on course to be declared the winner of last Sunday’s rerun Tlaquepque municipal election, in which thousands of voters decided to stay at home.

pg6bWith almost all the votes counted as of Tuesday, November 23, mayoral candidate Amaya led Alberto Maldonado, of the Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional (Morena) by 5,438 votes, a margin of 5.3 percent.  PAN candidate María del Rosario Velázquez was in a distant third place with around seven percent of the vote.

Voter participation, however, fell to just over 20 percent, down from 55 percent in the June 6 election, a contest won by Amaya but subsequently declared null and void by the Jalisco Electoral Tribunal due to campaign irregularities.

According to the preliminary results, 102,926 votes were cast, representing 21.60 percent of the 489,996 registered voters.
