Jamay, Jalisco’s next Magic Town?

Governor Enrique Alfaro has named the lakeshore town of Jamay as Jalisco’s next candidate for Pueblo Mágico status.

pg7Alfaro made the announcement on Tuesday, February 15, during a visit to Jamay to inaugurate the town’s newly completed Malecón. The lakefront boardwalk complex comprises ample recreational and garden areas, an al fresco restaurant zone and boat docks. Recent improvements included finishing the paving of pedestrian paths, vehicle roadways and parking lots, and the addition of planters, furnishings and lighting fixtures. The project was designed to boost tourism and the local economy.

Jamay is situated at the far east extreme of Lake Chapala, bordered by the municipalities of Ocotlán, La Barca and Briseñas in Michoacán. While farming and fishing are the main economic activities, tourism is showing strong growth as a new focus for the commercial sector.
