More investment for PET collection plant

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro this week officiated at a ceremony to mark the third stage of the expansion of a plant in Tlaquepaque that Coca Cola Mexico believes will double the collection and recycling of PET bottles that it puts on the market.

The plant is operated by PetStar, an offshoot of the Industria Mexicana de Coca-Cola (IMCC), and has been in business since 2006.  Last year, it collected 5,292 tons of PET containers, serving 21 municipalities in Jalisco, including Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tonalá, Tlaquepaque, Tlajomulco, Zapotlanejo, El Salto, Tala, and Zapotlán el Grande, in addition to others in the neighboring states of Nayarit and Colima. The company says the additional 175-million-peso investment earmarked for 2022 will boost “the growth of collecting partners and the opening of new collection points.
