Ballet de Jalisco back on stage

After several recent changes in personnel, the Ballet de Jalisco, the state’s only professional ballet troupe, will give three presentations at the end of July to benefit charitable causes.

pg4bThe dancers will interpret scenes from “Carmina Burana” and present “La noche de Walpurgis,” a piece based on a 1971 Spanish horror movie.

The performances will be the ballet’s first outing in Guadalajara since the appointment of new director Lucy Arce, a well-known figure on the local dance scene over the past three decades.

After auditions held in February, the renewed troupe now has 22 full-time dancers, and ten apprentices.

The shows at the Teatro Degollado are scheduled Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30, both at 8 p.m., and Sunday, July 31, 6 p.m.

The beneficiaries of the presentations will be two children’s shelters operated by the Sistema DIF Guadalajara: Villas Miravalle and 100 Corazones.
