Three suspects charged for attacking police in Riberas del Pilar

The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) has announced that three individuals named as the probable perpetrators of a shooting attack against Chapala Public Security officers and agents of the state Investigative Police will face trial on criminal charges based on the indictment presented in court by the District V Special Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The accused are identified as Héctor Eduardo P., Juan Carlos I. and Carolina A., who were arrested in the wake of a prolonged shootout that occurred on the night of Tuesday, September 13 in Riberas del Pilar, where police were responding to a report of persons being held hostage. Afterwards, authorities seized a firearm and a hand grenade found at the scene.

During a preliminary hearing, the presiding judge ruled there was sufficient evidence to send the three suspects to trial on charges of attempted homicide.

At the request of prosecutors, he also ordered that the accused be held in pre-trial detention for a maximum one year.

Under Article 19 of the Constitution, the Mexican legal system obliges judges to impose pre-trial detention on all persons accused of specific, mostly violent crimes.
