Governor hits back at state ‘bathed in blood’ remark

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro has taken issue with Mexican Interior Minister Adán Augusto López Hernández, who described the states of Jalisco, Guanajuato and Michoacan as being “bathed in blood” and “a paradise for criminals.”

for no 1The minister was speaking at a meeting with federal legislators to pitch the case for the armed forces to maintain their role in carrying out public security tasks until 2028.

López Hernández criticized the opposition governors of Jalisco (Citizens Movement) and Guanajuato (National Action Party) who “do nothing to ensure their states have an effective security service” and simply “follow the line of their (party’s) national leaders” in rejecting the federal government’s plan to maintain the presence of the military in their states.  López Hernández highlighted the hypocrisy of these governors who are ºthe first ones to ask for more elements from the Army and the National Guard when large-scale criminal acts occur.
