World Cup: US go out but with heads held high

North American interest in the Soccer World Cup ended last week when the United States (USNMT) suffered a 2-1 loss to the Netherlands in the round of 16.

Despite a courageous performance, the Americans were always chasing the game after Memphis Depay opened the scoring for the Netherlands in the tenth minute, A second by Danny Blind on the stroke of halftime complicated matters further, and although Haji Wright pulled a goal back for the USNMT early in the second half, a third by the Dutch on 81 minutes was the killer blow for the U.S. team.

The United States return home to prepare to co-host the 2026 competition, along with Canada and Mexico.
