Vallarta’s Emiliano Zapapta neighborhood gets back its pedestrian suspension bridge

Puerto Vallarta Mayor Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez this week reopened the reconstructed pedestrian suspension bridge over the River Cuale that collapsed in August of last year following the passage of Hurricane Nora.

pg10bWhile the hurricane left the port mostly unaffected, heavy rains in its aftermath caused the Cuale to swell, causing significant flooding and damage to property in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood.

As well as damage to the road bridge over the river, several properties were destroyed, including a hotel on the river bank, in which a 13-year-old boy lost his life.

The reconstructed bridge, which locals say is important for area residents, businesses and tourism. was paid for out of municipal coffers, at a cost of just over one million pesos.
