Volaris adds PV route - & cut-rate promos - but which form of travel is best option?

Discount airline Volaris is adding a daily flight to Puerto Vallarta to its ever-growing itinerary, beginning June 1.

pg3aIn a promotion to launch the new route, this week Volaris offered some limited dates at 39 or 59 pesos each way, although there were caveats.

Flights leave Guadalajara 12:45 p.m., arriving 1:38 p.m.  The Puerto Vallarta-GDL leg leaves at 2:08 p.m., touching down at 3:15 p.m.

The launch of the route comes on the heels of the demise of Aeromar, the Mexican discount airline that went into liquidation last month after its debt load became unmanageable.   Aeromar operated several daily flights between Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

Volaris’ cut-rate promotional fares for this route were for the basic ticket price, including only a personal item and not carry-on or checked luggage, or seat selection.

A search Tuesday on the Volaris website found some especially appealing promotions, although they are not all they appear to be on the surface.

For example, a round-trip fare for one person from Saturday, June 10 to Thursday, June 15 (a five-night stay in Vallarta), including a carry-on bag, was available on Tuesday for 358 pesos ($US19).
