Water cutoffs in metro area

Water supply to 2.5 million residents of the Guadalajara metropolitan area will be suspended on April 6 and 7 (Holy Thursday and Good Friday), SIAPA chief Carlos Torres Lugo said. 

The suspensions will be carried out at intervals, so households should not run out of water. The reason for the suspensions is to carry out the first major maintenance of the Lake Chapala-Guadalajara aqueduct/water delivery system since the Covid pandemic.

Beer Festival this weekend

A Beer Festival is scheduled Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Jardín Americana in Guadalajara’s Colonia Americana (Av. Vallarta 1305). The event will showcase more than 50 different craft beers from local, national and international breweries. The cost of entry—200 pesos, 150 if purchased previously online at gdlbeerfestival.com—includes a commemorative cup and access to the beer garden, tastings and workshops.  A novelty activity: beer yoga.

Man crashes car into bank

A 73-year-old man this week drove his SUV into the ATM cubicles of a Bancomer bank branch located in the Ciudad Granja neighborhood of Zapopan. A women withdrawing cash suffered leg and arm injuries and required hospital treatment. Reports indicate that the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator pedal thinking it was the brake, thus causing the accident.

Car immobilizations to start in May

Guadalajara city hall’s program to boot illegally parked vehicles in the centro historico will jump into top gear in May, Mayor Pablo Lemus said this week. Although announced more than a year ago, the initiative has been on hold for procedural reasons. Municipal traffic agents will mainly be on the look out for vehicles parked illegally in spaces reserved for the disabled, obstructing sidewalks and blocking walkways or driveways.
