Jalisco cartel parades ‘rateros’ in Ocotlan

In yet another demonstration of their influence and power, the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) recently posted a video on social media of some of their members escorting a group of handcuffed men through the streets of Octolan.

The armed cartel members were dressed in military-type fatigues and could be heard shouting out that their captives were been punished for being “rateros” (thieves).  One of  the hostages held up a sign listing his “offenses.”

According to reports, the incident took place on the town’s Avenida Malecón, parallel to the Santiago River, close to a police station. Ocotlan, on the shores of Lake Chapala, is located 60 kilometers from Guadalajara and 40 from Chapala.

The CJNG frequently posts videos and images that appear to taunt authorities, demonstrating how their cells are able to operate without scrutiny from local law enforcement agencies. Some of these videos have shown cartel members distributing gifts to residents in economically challenged neighborhoods on specific celebratory occasions, such as Mother’s Day, Children’s Day and over the Christmas period.
