Rainwater nests help relieve drought

Ixtlahuacàn de los Membrillos, Poncitlàn and Jocotepec are among the municipalities targeted for the expansion of the Jalisco government’s Nidos de Lluvias pilot project to combat drought conditions.

This year, 4,250 home rainwater capture systems  will be installed in low-income neighborhoods spread out in metro Guadalajara and six outlying municipalities.

The “rain nests” are composed of a connection from the roof of a home that feeds into a cistern with capacity to store up to 2,500 liters of water which is apt for common household chores,  such as washing  laundry and dishes, mopping, garden care and bathing. With extra filtering the water is safe for human consumption.
