One of Latin America’s most famous rock bands will entertain Tapatios at the Independence Day festivities planned in the Guadalajara city center on the evening of Friday, September 15.
Legends Café Tacvba will take to the stage in the Plaza Liberacion soon after the state governor has given the famous “Grito de Dolores” commemorating the cry of rebellion that Father Miguel Hidalgo made in 1810 against Spanish colonial rule.
The state government has organized the concert to coincide with this year’s celebration marking the bicentennial of Jalisco’s statehood.
“It is going to be a great party, we are very excited,” Governor Enrique Alfaro said, adding that the annual patriotic celebrations in the city center will start at 7 p.m. with mariachis accompanied by singer Dina Buendía. The Café Tacvba concert is scheduled immediately after the 11 p.m. Grito—usually delivered passionately by the state governor from the balcony of the Government Palace—and subsequent fireworks display.
Alfaro gave a shout-out to Café Tacvba’s lead singer Rubén Albarrán, who was recently named in Billboard’s list of “50 Greatest Rock Lead Singers of All Time” (see sidebar above).
Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus said permits have been given to 160 vendors who will set up their stalls in the city center, hawking all kinds of patriotic merchandize and traditional foods.
