All’s well with our state, governor reports

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro broke with tradition by delivering his fifth and final informe (annual state-of-the-state report) in writing to the state Congress, thus declining to face opposition legislators and to listen to their opinions and criticisms.

pg1bInstead, he chose to present his informe at an “invitee-only” gathering at Expo Guadalajara, where he spent two hours detailing his government’s achievements.

Despite taking on a heavy debt load during the Covid pandemic, Alfaro lauded the health of Jalisco’s finances, highlighting the increased funding for municipalities under his watch, and major investments in hospital, educational, transportation, sports and cultural infrastructure. He pinpointed successes in areas such as job creation, social assistance programs and environmental initiatives, such as the Río Santiago revival project. He also gave himself credit for taking the steps to guarantee the water supply of the Guadalajara metropolitan area in the coming decades.

The “cherry on the cake” of his administration, Alfaro said, is the construction of Line Four of the Tren Ligero (Light Rail), which is 31 percent complete and will connect Guadalajara with the suburb of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga.
