Scorching weather to drag on, maybe until start of July

The sweltering heat wave will continue this weekend and into next week in most parts of Jalisco, with temperatures ranging from 38 to 45 degrees Celcius (104-113F).

Record temperatures are likely to be set around the nation in the next 15 days, scientists from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) said Thursday.

The thermometer in metro-area Guadalajara is expected to climb to 38 degrees Celcius on Sunday, May 26, according to Mexico’s National Meteorological Service (SMN).  Early morning temperatures next week will hover between 18 and 22 degrees C (5 to 8 a.m.), and late evening ones between 29 and 23 degrees (8 p.m. to midnight).

The SMN identifies Tapalpa and Chapala as the two “coolest” spots in Jalisco right now, with maximum temperatures of 34 degrees Celcius (91.4F).

The SMN  says states where the 45-degree threshold is likely to be exceeded over the coming week are Sinaloa, Michoacán, Guerrero, Morelos, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán.
