The Jalisco state legislature has approved a law requiring parents and guardians to ensure that children and adolescents not only attend school but also remain enrolled until completing their education.
Representative Enrique Velázquez said the measure aims to prevent dropouts, emphasizing that enrollment alone is not enough.
“Children should remain in school, and programs should help ensure their continued attendance,” he said.
Under the reform, the Jalisco Department of Education will create policies to promote inclusion, attendance and retention, while the state’s Social Assistance System will step in with programs to support students at risk of dropping out.
