El Mencho killing fallout: 806 torched vehicles

The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office has received 806 reports of vehicles set on fire during the wave of violence that followed the death of drug lord Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, ”El Mencho,” who was killed in a military operation on February 22 in Tapalpa.

In addition to the vehicles, the Prosecutor’s Office has received 38 reports of vandalism or arson attacks on properties.

To streamline the process for victims filing claims — whether for insurance purposes or government compensation — the agency has set up special offices in both the metropolitan area and other parts of the state.

Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus recently announced a 100-million-peso fund to assist individuals whose vehicles were burned or stolen and who did not have insurance.
