Semana Santa has passed and it is now a good time to remember many of the Bible’s great thoughts and words to live by – quotes that everybody has been repeating for centuries as good Christian advice and thigh tattoos.
For example: “It’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Matthew 19:24. Naturally, on Judgement Day, defining the category of “rich” would require heaven to apply “means testing.” And even investigations of off-shore shell companies. So if true, this saying would require a lot of paperwork.
More importantly, I thought it wise for someone to point out that some famous sayings and common expressions thought to have their origin in the Bible actually come from elsewhere. Such as:
1. “Cleanliness is Next to Godliness.” This is not biblical. Probably came from a Victorian Parents’ Teacher’s Meeting – where God forgave youthful sins if kids just freshened up once in a while – at the time that would have been a bath once a year.
